How Do I?
Obtain a Refund
All refund requests must be made within six months of the date of purchase. You may be eligible for a refund if:
- You have purchased a duplicate vehicle registration (two stickers or license plates) and you return the duplicate sticker or plates.
- A car dealer purchased new license plates for your vehicle and you have plates that are transferable. You must return the sticker and plates with a copy of the transfer transaction.
- You renewed your license plates and sold the vehicle before the registration year started. You must return the sticker and plates with a Sworn Statement stating the last date you operated the vehicle.

Pay for an Insufficient Funds Check
You may pay for a NSF check with cash, cashier’s check, money order or credit card. To pay by credit card, you must call the Returned Check Division at 217-782-3582, Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-1 p.m. To pay by cash, cashier’s check or money order only, please visit a Driver Services facility.
