RECORD GROUP 358.000 - BOARD OF VETERINARY EXAMINERS

The Board of Veterinary Examiners was created in 1899 (L. 1899, p. 277). Its members were appointed by the Board of Livestock Commissioners. The Board of Veterinary Examiners examined diplomas and credentials and conducted examinations of applicants for licenses to practice veterinary medicine and surgery in Illinois. After the requirements were met the Board of Livestock Commissioners issued the license. The board was abolished by the Civil Administrative Code of 1917 and its powers and duties were transferred to the newly created Department of Registration and Education.

Minutes of the proceedings of the board's regular meetings concern the examination and certification of veterinarians. Minutes usually include candidate's name, city residence, and college attended. Also included is correspondence with the Board of Livestock Commissioners concerning examination results.

Names of veterinarians are listed alphabetically with certificate numbers entered under the following categories which indicate the basis upon which a certificate was issued: exemption, graduation, examination prior to April 1913, and examination subsequent to April 1913.
