The Office of State Game Commissioner was created in 1899 succeeding to the powers and duties formerly vested in the state game wardens (L. 1899, p. 222). The Governor appointed the game commissioner and he in turn appointed local game wardens and deputies. The duties of the commissioner included the enforcement of state laws regarding game animals and birds and the prosecution of violators of such laws. Fines resulting from prosecutions were paid into the Game Fund of the State Treasury. In 1913 the office was abolished and its powers and duties were transferred to the newly created State Game and Fish Commission (L. 1913, p. 363). The Game and Fish Commission was succeeded in 1917 by the Division of Fish and Game of the Department of Agriculture (L. 1917, p. 2).

Docket entries concerning prosecution of game law violations include date of trial, name and residence of defendant, names and residences of informers or witnesses, section of game law which was violated, name of individual hearing case, decision of the court and date of decision, and the amount of fine and the amount collected. Docket infrequently includes date and amount of fines deposited in the Game Fund. Occasional remarks include type of violation, plea of defendant, and sentence passed.

For each shipment of birds entries include date and place to which shipped, names of shipper and recipient, number and kind of birds shipped, and notations of number arriving dead.
