IRAD at the University of Illinois at Springfield

The IRAD facility at the University of Illinois
at Springfield is located on the first level of Norris L. Brookens
Library on the main campus. Brookens Library was the first permanent
building on campus and is situated in the middle of campus. IRAD at
the University of Illinois at Springfield is housed with the
University
Archives.
Visitors are urged to park in
Lot B on the east side of Brookens Library. Lot B is about a five
minute walk to the front entrance of the library.

Directions to UIS Main
Campus in Springfield
From the City of
Springfield
Proceed south on South 6th Street (or South 11th) to south
edge of town at Stevenson Drive. Turn left (east) on Stevenson and continue
for about 1 1/2 miles to intersection with West Lake Shore Drive. Turn right
(south) on West Lake Shore Drive, and continue straight to the edge of the
UIS campus.
Alternative route from east
side of town, via South Grand Avenue:
Turn south onto Taylor Avenue from South Grand, proceed
to the intersection with Stevenson Drive (when you cross Stevenson Drive,
Taylor Avenue becomes West Lake Drive). Then continue as described above
straight to edge of the UIS campus.
Alternative route from south
edge of Springfield:
Proceed south on 6th Street, past the intersection with
Stevenson Drive, and the intersection with St. Joseph Street. At next
traffic light, turn left (east) onto Hazel Dell Road. Follow Hazel Dell
Road around the curve (where it becomes 11th Street) over the I-55 bridge
to next traffic light. Go straight ahead on the 11th Street Extension (see
note below) through a railroad crossing, to a 4-way stop
sign. Turn left (east) onto Hemingway Drive (a boulevard) to the next stop
sign. Turn left following the curving roadway through campus to get to
Brookens Library.
Note:
At this intersection, an alternative route is available. You may
turn left on Hazel Dell Road as it goes east, toward intersection with West
Lake Shore Drive. Then turn right (south) at that traffic light and follow
West Lake Shore Drive to the edge of the UIS campus.
From the
North — using I-55
Leave the interstate at the exit (#94) for Stevenson Drive. Turn right
(west) at top of exit ramp and proceed through 2 traffic signals. At 3rd
signal, turn left (south) onto West Lake Shore Drive and continue to the
north edge of the UIS campus.
From the
South — using I-55
Leave the interstate at exit (#90) for Toronto Road. Turn
right (east) at the top of exit ramp, proceed through small business area,
over a railroad crossing, past a Springfield Fire Department Station; follow
the roadway as it curves left and passes CACC (Capital Area Career Center).
Following CACC's campus, turn left (north) into the 11th Street Extension.
Any of the next three right turns will lead you to the UIS campus.
Alternative route: When
Toronto Road curves left and passes CACC (Capital Area Career Center), keep
going straight ahead to the traffic light at intersection with Shepherd Road
(at the entrance to the Lincoln Land Community College campus): turn left
(north) and proceed a short distance to the south edge of the UIS campus.
From the East — using
US36/I-72
At intersection with I-55, choose I-55 South, following it to Stevenson
Drive exit (#94). Turn right (west) at top of exit ramp, proceed through 2
traffic signals; at 3rd signal, turn left (south) onto West Lake Shore Drive
and continue to the north edge of the UIS campus.
From the West — using
US36/I-72
Leave highway by exit ramp to 6th Street North, drive a
short distance to a traffic light, turn right (east) onto Hazel Dell Road.
Follow Hazel Dell Road around the curve (where it becomes 11th Street) over
the I-55 bridge to next traffic light. If you make a left turn at the light,
you are again on Hazel Dell Road which can be followed to West Lake Shore
Drive (traffic light, small school building) where you turn right (south) to
reach the north boundary of the UIS campus.
If you proceed straight ahead through the traffic light at
the intersection of 11th Street and Hazel Dell Road, you are on the 11th
Street Extension. Follow the roadway to a STOP sign, at the intersection of
the 11th St. Extension and Ernest Hemingway Drive, where you will find the
University of Illinois at Springfield main entrance sign (This is considered
the main entrance to the campus); make a left turn onto Hemingway Drive (a
boulevard-style roadway). At the next STOP sign, you are at the edge of the
UIS campus. |
