Secretary White serves as Ex Officio Clerk of the Illinois Court of Claims.

The department maintains the official records and case files of the Court and provides support services to the Judges and Commissioners, who rule regarding formal monetary claims made against the state(except worker compensation claims).

The department also prepares and monitors federal grants for payment to crime victims.
