1,411 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes.
206 young people aged 16-20 were killed in motor vehicle crashes.
There were 186 pedestrian fatalities, 22 of which were bicyclists.
2002 National Data:
42,815 lives were lost and more than 3 million people were injured in police-reported crashes.
3,827 young people, aged 15-20 were killed in motor vehicle crashes and 324,000 young people were injured in motor vehicle crashes.
4,808 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes and 71,000 pedestrians were injured. This is the equivalent of:
- one fatality every 109 minutes
- one injury every 7 minutes
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for every age from 2-33 years old.
