Electronic Lobbyist System

The right to petition our government, and the right of citizens to be aware and confident of policy making in their government are cornerstones of our democracy. To those ends the Index Department of the Illinois Secretary of State is required to administer the Lobbyist Registration Act. Effective January 2006, the Department successfully launched electronic lobbyist registration online. After one year, the Department included the second online phase of the project, which is the electronic filing of lobbyist expenditure and activity reports.

The online registration and reporting system has been designed to offer a user-friendly tool to those individuals and entities that are required to register, and report their activities and expenditures. These electronic filings provide an accessible database from which the workings of lobbyists representing virtually all Illinois' professions, businesses and organizations can be reviewed.

This website is a real-time, searchable lobbyist registration database. Subsequent to the unveiling of this service, expenditure and lobbyist activities reporting will be featured. In the future, the Department will offer a continuing expansion of access to the lobbyist database, as well as a flexible tool for implementing the ever-changing disclosure laws that impact representational government.
