Mobile Access for Research Databases Illinois State Library
Following is a list of mobile interfaces and apps designed to help users access library-subscribed research databases via mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablet PCs (e.g., iPad).
To enjoy ebooks and digital audiobooks from the Axis360/eRead Illinois collection on your tablet or smartphone device, install the free axis 360 mobile app from the Apple App Store (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch), Google Play (includes Nook tablets and Kobo tablets), or Amazon Appstore (Kindle Fire/Fire HD). Then, simply follow the instructions provided in the Getting Started guides provided below:

EBSCOhost - iOS and Android Apps
EBSCO Publishing offers free apps to ensure that iOS (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch) and Android users can take full advantage of their premium EBSCOhost research database content no matter where they happen to be. The convenience and rich functionality of these apps enables users to:
- Choose which databases to search.
- Limit results to full text or peer reviewed.
- Sort by relevance or date.
- Retrieve full text results in HTML and/or PDF formats.
- Retrieve their most recent 25 search results
- Save results for offline access at a later date.
- Email results to self or others.
To download either the EBSCOhost iOS or Android application, access any EBSCOhost research database (e.g., Academic Search Premier, Business Source Elite) from the State Library's Research Databases website (remote access is only available to Illinois state government employees). Click the EBSCOhost iPhone and Android Applications link at the bottom of any EBSCOhost database page to email yourself the download instructions, access key, and a link to the app store.
Gale - AccessMyLibrary Public Edition
Interested users may download the free iPhone app to access State Library subscribed databases and ebooks from Gale (must be located within a 10 mile radius of the State Library in Springfield, Illinois). Following the download, AccessMyLibrary will use GPS to locate the Illinois State Library. Once the State Library is selected, users will be prompted to "Update My Library" to get a list of available resources. This app will work also with other public libraries that subscribe to Gale databases and ebooks. The app is also availabe from the Android Market.
Illinois State Library Catalog Mobile Interface
Use this mobile interface to search the State Library's catalog to find books and other library materials at the State Library or at any of the other 80+ libraries in the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) that contribute records to I-Share. The interface was adapted from work done by Josh Bishoff, Visiting Access and Mobile Services Librarian at the University of Illinois' Grainger Engineering Library.
A text me this call number feature is also available in the full web interface to the State Library's catalog. This feature allows users to text the title and call number of a book to their cell phone. Users must create a free account and login to utilize this feature. Most cell phone carriers are supported.
WorldCat Mobile Interface
Use WorldCat Mobile to search WorldCat.org for books, music, movies, and other materials in libraries near you. You may also find a nearby library and map a route to a library.
