INFORM SERVICE

What is INFORM?

The INFORM Service is a current awareness service for state government employees and elected officials offered by the Illinois State Library Public Services Division. Through the INFORM service, subscribers receive photocopied or scanned tables of contents from selected journals. Subscribers may then select articles and submit their request to INFORM to be photocopied within federal guidelines. Please note that the INFORM service is not intended to be a substitute for subscribing to a publication.

The journals selected for INFORM must have a subject matter that has a direct relationship to the goals and missions of state government and favor literature that is general and non-technical in nature with an emphasis on current awareness and topicality.

How do I subscribe to INFORM?

  1. Complete and return an INFORM Service Enrollment Form.
  2. Select journals (no more than 20) on the INFORM Master Journals List that you wish to receive table of contents for and return.
  3. If you do not have a valid Illinois State Library state employee library card, complete and return an application for a card. (NOTE: All INFORM correspondence can be sent to the address provided below)

How does INFORM work?

When a new issue of a periodical on the INFORM list is received at the library, you will receive the table of contents from the journals you have selected by email or in print through postal or inter-office mail.

When requesting articles by mail, return the table of contents with articles you wish to receive highlighted or marked either by a check mark or circle.

When requesting articles by email, include the name of the journal, title of the article, and the page number where it begins in your email response.

Please limit photocopy request to work-related materials and to no more than one article per journal. INFORM staff will send copies of the requested articles to you. If you have a deadline indicate a “need by” date as request are processed in the order in which they are received.

* Request deemed not in compliance with the Copyright Act (Title 17 of the United States Code, Public Law 94-553, 90 Stat. 2541) will be returned to you with a letter of explanation.
