Digital Imaging Advisory Committee
Roster

The Digital Imaging Advisory Committee (DIAC) advises the Illinois State Library on the implementation of a statewide digital imaging initiative. DIAC assists ISL in developing calls for proposals for digital imaging grants, and reviews proposals submitted by libraries. Committee member have also provided ISL advice on grant proposals that it submits to the National Endowment for the Humanities and other funding entities.

ILLINET Depository Library Council
Roster

The Illinois State Library Depository Coordinating Council serves as an advisory body to the Illinois State Library on matters relating to federal and state government depository programs and services. The purpose of the Illinois Documents Depository Program is to work with the Illinois State Library to provide access to Illinois government publications to all Illinois citizens. The coordinating council encourages cooperative collection development within this state, in part by identifying retrospective collections of state documents that are needed as a statewide resource and seeking means of making them available.

Purpose:

  • Discuss and initiate state contributions which will affect resource sharing in Illinois and ILLINET libraries.
  • Promote resource sharing and multi-type library cooperation.
  • Serve as a means of communication among the formal and informal library and education constituencies in the state.
  • Provide a forum for the exchange of information.
  • Advise the Director of the Illinois State Library regarding resource sharing issues.
  • Serve as an advisory forum to the Illinois State Library on statewide issues related to bibliographic control, information access, resources (electronic and print), digitization and interlibrary cooperation.

Council Charge:

  • To identify opportunities for cooperative projects among various organizations and consortia.
  • To recommend areas for in-depth analysis and commission studies/consultancies as appropriate.
  • To optimize communications between various stakeholders.

Illinois Diversity Program Advisory Committee

Purpose:

  • Discuss and recommend suggestions that will effect multicultural and minorities library program planning and information sharing in Illinois and ILLINET libraries.
  • Assist the Illinois State Library in ensuring that equity in access to library and information services are available to all Illinoisans.
  • Promote the inclusion and recruitment of a diverse library workforce, diversity and multicultural awareness programs, and training in libraries.
  • Serve as a means of communication among the formal and informal library and community constituencies in the state.
  • Provide a forum for the exchange of information.
  • Advise the Diversity Program manager at the Illinois State Library regarding minority career recruitment, mentoring, and related diversity and multicultural issues or activities related to the field of libraries.
  • To serve as an advisory group to the Illinois State Library on statewide issues related to cultural programs, racial minorities, and diversity issues.

Committee Charge:

  • To identify opportunities for cooperative projects among various organizations, agencies, businesses, and consortia.
  • To recommend areas for in-depth analysis and commission studies/consultancies as appropriate.
  • To recommend, support, and assist in creating library programs relating to the recruitment and retention of minorities into the profession and cultural awareness in libraries
  • To optimize communications between various stakeholders.

ISLAC and its special committees, and task forces include both Illinois citizens and members of the library community. Special committees and task forces are organized by purpose and are composed of appropriate individuals from the library community. The Advisory Committee's membership was established by Illinois law and includes not only representatives from all types of libraries, but also other individuals who represent groups of library users.

The ILLINET Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Code Committee was appointed by Illinois State Library Director Anne Craig, February 2007.

The Committee was charged with revising the ILLINET Interlibrary Loan Code, last revised in 2000.

Literacy Advisory Board

The Literacy Advisory Board (LAB) is an eight member statutory body appointed by the Secretary of State to review the literacy grant proposals submitted to the Office of the Secretary of State and to recommend to the Secretary of State those deserving of funding.

Statewide Cataloging Standards Committee
Roster

The Statewide Cataloging Standards Committee is responsible for developing a cataloging standards document that prescribes bibliographic practices and guidelines for cataloging training and certification throughout Illinois. Toward the achievement of this goal, the committee will act as a conduit for discussion and resolution of cataloging issues, and provide a forum for setting cataloging practices and policies statewide. Because the rules that govern bibliographic control perpetually change and evolve with new technology, the committee convenes on an ongoing basis six times yearly. In addition to bimonthly meetings, an online email discussion list was established to facilitate problem solving and foster consensus on ambiguous cataloging decisions.

Subcommittee for Public Library Construction

The Subcommittee for Public Library Construction consists of one architect and 8 other members from the library field. The purpose of the committee is to review applications for public library building grants and make recommendations to ISLAC, and in turn, the Secretary, for grant awards.
