The Illinois State Literacy Office/Illinois State Library has just published a manual called How to Start an Adult Volunteer Literacy Program. PDF
The manual contains information on training and recruiting volunteers, determining need in your community, finance and budget, staffing and many more topics. Please contact Myra Johnson for additional information.

What is Family Reading Night?
Family Reading Night, which is held the third Thursday of November, is a statewide initiative to encourage families to spend an evening reading together. For more information or to request materials, please contact Ron Winner at the Illinois State Library or call 217-785-1168. Order forms are required by February 14 before the following Family Reading Night in November.
How can I or my company support literacy programs?
Local literacy programs need both financial and in-kind support from individuals and corporations. Programs may have different needs. Check the Workplace Education Resource Directory above or call the Illinois Adult Learning Hotline at 1-800-321-9511.
Where are the grant programs located in my area?
