As with the printed book, it has been technology that has made talking books possible and user friendly; and it is through universal acceptance of new technology that the wonders of the talking book are available to
blind and physically handicapped people of all nations. The emerging universal talking book technology has world-wide acceptance. Nearly all countries are now using standard Phillips cassettes, either 2 or 4 track formats, and that has allowed the easy production, sale, and exchange of recorded books among all nations.
