The Environmental plates feature our state bird, the cardinal, and our state prairie grass, big bluestem. The sale of each set of plates generates funds for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ State Park Trust Fund, which is used to maintain and preserve state parks throughout Illinois.

Fees

Random-Number Environmental License Plates
  • Newly acquired vehicle/first-time issuance - $236 ($95 title fee + $101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee)
  • Currently titled vehicle/first-time issuance - $141 ($101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $170 ($101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $69 ($40 Environmental license plates fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Annual renewal - $128 ($101 registration fee + $27 Environmental license plates fee)

Vanity Environmental License Plates
  • Newly acquired vehicle/first-time issuance - $330 ($95 title fee + $101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee + $94 vanity fee)
  • Currently titled vehicle/first-time issuance - $235 ($101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee + $94 vanity fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $264 ($101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee + 94 vanity Fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $163 ($40 Environmental license plates fee + $94 vanity Fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Annual renewal - $141 ($101 registration fee + $27 Environmental license plates fee + $13 vanity fee)

Personalized Environmental License Plates
  • Newly acquired vehicle/first-time issuance - $283 ($95 title fee + $101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee + $47 personalized fee)
  • Currently titled vehicle/first-time issuance - $188 ($101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee + $47 personalized fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $217 ($101 registration fee + $40 Environmental license plates fee + $47 personalized fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $116 ($40 Environmental license plates fee + $47 personalized fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Annual renewal - $135 ($101 registration fee + $27 Environmental license plates fee + $7 personalized fee)

Availability

  • Environmental license plates are multi-year and may be displayed on passenger vehicles, trucks and vans weighing 8,000 pounds or less and sport utility vehicles.
  • Not eligible for Circuit Breaker
