Military — Purple Heart Motorcycle

Purple Heart License Plates

Purple Heart Motorcycle License Plates may be issued to any Illinois resident who has been awarded the military’s Purple Heart medal. A surviving spouse may obtain a set of plates. The Purple Heart plate has also been designed in a smaller size specifically for motorcycles.

Fees

Random-Number Purple Heart Motorcycle License Plates
  • Newly acquired vehicle/first-time issuance - $136 ($95 title fee + $41 registration fee)
  • Currently titled vehicle/first-time issuance - $41 ($41 registration fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $67 ($41 registration fee + $26 replacement fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $26 ($26 replacement fee)
  • Annual renewal - $41 ($41 registration fee)

Switching from current random-number Purple Heart Motorcycle plates to vanity and/or personalized Purple Heart Motorcycle plates requires a $26 replacement fee. Registration fee may vary based on current registration.


Vanity Purple Heart Motorcycle License Plates

  • Newly acquired vehicle/first-time issuance - $136 ($95 title fee + $41 registration fee)

To Apply

  • One must provide a copy of the Discharge from Military Service (DD214), or a letter of verification showing your status as a Purple Heart recipient from the Department of Veterans Affairs of the federal government.
  • The request can only be processed in Springfield. Apply in person or mail the proper documentation to:
