Korean War Veteran

The Korean War veteran plate is issued to any Illinois resident who participated in the U.S. Armed Forces between June 27, 1950, and July 27, 1954, within the territorial limits of Korea or in waters immediately adjacent thereto, or has been issued the Korean War Service Medal or Korean Service Bonus.

    ($78 Registration fee + $15 Korean War plate fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $122
    ($78 registration fee + $15 Korean War plate fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $44
    ($15 Korean War plate fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Annual renewal - $78
    ($78 registration fee)

Newly Acquired Vehicle

  • First-time issuance - $158
    ($143 title/registration fee + $15 Korean War plate fee)

To Apply

  • one must provide a photocopy of DD214 (discharge from the military service) indicating applicant received a Korean War Service Medal (KSM), or a letter of verification from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs or the federal government showing applicant's service record.

  • Korean War Veteran license plates are multi-year and may be displayed on passenger vehicles, trucks and vans weighing 8,000 pounds or less, recreational vehicles, recreational trailers and sport utility vehicles.
