Universal Veteran Motorcycle

Universal Veteran Motorcycle License Plates may be issued to any Illinois resident who has served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The motorcycle sticker must be attached to the upper right corner of the plate. Illinois Compiled Statutes defines a motorcycle as "Every motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of a rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, but excluding a tractor (625 ILCS 5/1-147).

The Universal Veterans plate has also been designed in a smaller size specifically for motorcycles.

Fees

Random-Number Universal Veteran Motorcycle License Plates

  • Newly acquired vehicle/first-time issuance - $149
    ($95 title fee + $39 registration fee + $15 Universal Veteran Motorcycle license plates fee)
  • Currently titled vehicle/first-time issuance - $54
    ($39 registration fee + $15 Universal Veteran Motorcycle license plates fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $80
    ($39 registration fee + $26 replacement fee + $15 Universal Veteran Motorcycle license plates fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $41
    ($26 replacement fee + $15 Universal Veteran Motorcycle license plates fee)
  • Annual renewal - $39
    ($39 registration fee)

(NOTE: to switch from a current random-numbered Universal Veteran Motorcycle license plates to a vanity/personalized Universal Veteran Motorcycle license plates will cost $26 replacement fee.)

  • Newly acquired vehicle/first-time issuance - $149
    ($95 title fee + $39 registration fee + $15 Universal Veteran Motorcycle license plates fee)
  • Currently titled vehicle/first-time issuance - $54
    ($39 registration fee + $15 Universal Veteran Motorcycle license plates fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $80

To Apply

  • One must provide a DD 214 or equivalent to prove service.
  • The request can only be processed in Springfield. Apply in person or mail the proper documentation to:
