World War II Veteran

World War II Veteran license plates are available for those who served in the military between December 7, 1941 and September 2, 1945. The vehicle the plates will be affixed to must be registered and/or titled in the veteran's name.

Currently Registered Vehicle

  • First-time issuance - $93
    ($78 Registration fee + $15 World War II Veteran plate fee)
  • Current plates expire within 90 days - $122
    ($78 registration fee + $15 World War II Veteran plate fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Current plates do not expire within 90 days - $44
    ($15 World War II Veteran plate fee + $29 replacement fee)
  • Annual renewal - $78
    ($78 registration fee)

Newly Acquired Vehicle

  • First-time issuance - $158
    ($143 title/registration fee + $15 World War II Veteran plate fee)

To Apply

  • One must provide a legible copy of a DD214 (discharge from military service)verifying military service during World War II or a letter from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs or the federal government verifying service record.

  • World War II Veteran License Plates are multi-year and may be displayed on passenger vehicles, trucks and vans weighing 8,000 pounds or less and Sport Utility Vehicles.
