SPRINGFIELD Secretary of State and State Librarian
Jesse White recently announced that his office is awarding
$1 million in grants to 500 libraries as part of the
"Equipment to Books" grant program. The program offers
libraries the opportunity to enhance access to information
and to promote resource sharing with the purchase of one
piece of needed equipment or reference materials.
"These short-term $2000 grants support the cost of
higher priced equipment or materials that would otherwise be
unavailable to many libraries," said White. "By sharing this
cost, Illinois libraries can improve the services offered to
their patrons."
The grants, available to all types of libraries, were
awarded on a first apply/first funded basis. Any equipment
purchased with the grant money must be directly related to
access to information or resource sharing. All formats are
acceptable for reference materials and may include sets,
serials and one-year subscriptions that benefit access to
information by patrons.
The "Equipment to Books" grants are administered by the
Illinois State Library and are funded by the Library
Services and Technology Act with federal funds
distributed by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
