White Awards Silver Star License Plates At Veterans' Day Ceremony

SPRINGFIELD - Secretary of State Jesse White released the "Silver Star" military license plate for Illinois veterans who have received the Silver Star from the Department of Defense at a Veterans’ Day Ceremony held at the State Capitol today.

The Silver Star is awarded to those military personnel who have demonstrated bravery and courage beyond the call of duty. About 10 Illinois veterans who were awarded the Silver Star received the new license plates during the ceremony.

"As a veteran of the Army's 101st Airborne Division, I have great admiration for the men and women who have worn the military uniform of the United States," said White. "I am humbled by the fact that many of those in uniform have displayed valor beyond the call of duty, and for that I am eternally grateful. I am forever thankful to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives for our country.

"The people of Illinois have a long history of showing appreciation to our veterans. Brave men and women have been in the military to defend the principles and freedoms of the United States and many Illinoisans are among those who have proudly served," added White. "Therefore, I have decided to issue a special plate recognizing these brave veterans who have received the Silver Star. I hope we all display an appreciation to our veterans when we see these new Silver Star plates. These courageous Illinois veterans, along with all veterans, have earned and deserve our respect."

White said that more than a dozen different specialty plates honoring Illinois veterans and military personnel are available through the Secretary of State’s office.
