Chicago Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is reminding driver's not to drink and drive and to use their safety belts during this Labor Day holiday weekend.
Over the 2002 Labor Day weekend, 18 people were killed on Illinois roadways. Of those 18, six died in alcohol-related traffic crashes.
"Please celebrate this holiday weekend safely," said White. "If you are going to consume alcohol at a party, be responsible and designate a sober driver. We want this holiday weekend to be fun and safe for everyone."
White will put additional Secretary of State police on patrol throughout the state for the three-day weekend. "Extra police will be on duty across Illinois to ticket and arrest unsafe and drunk drivers," he said. "My office is working to make this weekend as safe as possible."
