Springfield Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White is inviting the public to attend free electronic database training workshops at the Illinois State Library on Tuesday, April 15th to learn how to search for and use important information located on the Internet.
Patrons will receive hands-on training on how to access numerous databases for current information about health, family, home repair, travel, political and worldwide issues, books and magazines located worldwide, and general research. Four sessions lasting 45 minutes each are scheduled, beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Training sessions are free, but registration is requested. Contact Sharon Layne to register at 217-524-0773, or slayne@ilsos.net.
The free training sessions are being held to celebrate 10 years of OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) FirstSearch at the Illinois State Library. OCLC FirstSearch is a comprehensive and complete reference service for library users, with a collection of databases and links to the World Wide Web, providing more than 10 million online full text articles, full-image articles from over 4,000 electronic journals, library holdings, and interlibrary loan. It also supports research in a wide range of subject areas with well-known bibliographic and full-text databases, in addition to ready-reference tools such as directories, almanacs and encyclopedias.
The Illinois State Library is located at 300 South Second Street, at the corner of Second and Capitol Streets, in Springfield.
