White Announces Winners At 2004 Antique Vehicle Show

SPRINGFIELD — A 1965 Bridgestone Motorcycle owned by Jim Trader of Springfield won the top award at the 2004 Secretary of State's Antique Vehicle Show September 11, at the State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

Secretary of State Jesse White said Trader received the Illinois State Champion award for having the best overall vehicle in the show.

'' With 216 entries this year, the show was one of the biggest and best in its 55 year history,'' said White. '' The show attracted some of the most beautifully restored antique and classic vehicles in the state, as well as sports cars and motorcycles.''

A 1952 Buick owned by Monty Carpenter of Humboldt received the special Marque award as the best Buick in the show. The Marque award honors a different automobile manufacturer each year. Buick was chosen this year in the honor of the 100th anniversary of the company.

New this year was an exhibit and demonstration of antique tractors sponsored by the Vintage Agricultural Association of Menard County. The organization was formed in July 2001 to honor Illinois' agricultural heritage through the preservation, restoration and education of vintage agriculture equipment. Plaques were awarded by the association to the winners.

White said first place winners in 43 classifications received 'State Champion in Class' awards, and second and third place winners also received awards.
