Jesse White's Teen Driver Safety Task Force To Meet in Springfield Tuesday, Jan. 9


Who: Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, legislators, law enforcement officials, traffic safety experts, and victim advocates

What: Will hold the final public meeting to review a report outlining proposed changes to the state's Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program. The report was produced from a series of statewide public hearings aimed at strengthening the Illinois GDL law. White will draft legislation to change the state's laws for teen drivers as well as implement new administrative changes to the GDL program based on the Task Force's final recommendations.

Where: Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, Multi-Purpose Room, 112 North Sixth Street, Springfield, IL

When: Tuesday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m.

Why: White established the Task Force to examine potential changes to the state's GDL program for young novice, drivers. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people ages 15 to 20. Annually about 1,000 16-year-old drivers are involved in fatal crashes in the U.S.
