All Illinois Secretary of State offices and Driver Services facilities are CLOSED to the public through April 30, 2020, due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Expiration dates for driver's licenses, identification (ID) cards, vehicle registrations and other transactions and document filings will be extended by at least 30 days after Driver Services Facilities reopen.

The Driver Services Department issues licenses to more than 8.5 million Illinois drivers and more than 3 million photo identification cards to drivers and non-drivers at more than 130 locations.

In addition, Driver's Services maintains driving records and takes administrative action against unsafe drivers.


Pursuant to Title VI of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Driver Services Department of the Illinois Secretary of State operates its programs without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, including income level and limited English proficiency and, pursuant to the Illinois Human Rights Act, operates its programs without regard to religion, order of protection, marital or military status, sexual orientation, pregnancy or unfavorable discharge from military service.
