As the Illinois State Library entered the second decade of the 21st century, it continued to flourish under dedicated leadership and talented employees. Director Anne Craig notes how fortunate the library is in both regards.

As the Illinois State Library entered the second decade of the 21st century, it continued to flourish under dedicated leadership and talented employees. Director Anne Craig notes how fortunate the library is in both regards.

“And the staff here is just superb,” continued Craig, with obvious admiration. “You can take any division here, and you’ll find people that I would take against any in the world. They are extraordinary workers and extraordinary people, and they are wonderful to work with.”1018

Craig’s tenure was committed to the implementation of technology in Illinois librarianship. In a 2005 interview, she summarized that importance:

“Technology should be at the forefront of every library’s agenda. Libraries today must have a web presence and web services; the web is where many clients expect to find our services. In many libraries, more people visit their web sites than come through their front doors. Technology is not a replacement for traditional library services, however. Technology extends the library beyond its previous boundaries and enhances services for many different types of communities.”1019
